Character Profile: Donner from Miserable Comedians

Aug23
by Tony DiGerolamo on August 23, 2010 at 11:10 pm
Posted In: Character Profile

Name: Donner

First Appearance: Miserable Comedians #1

Description: Donner is a stand up comic that is probably better looking than he is funny.  Skating by on his good looks, Donner does a lot of jokes about relationships because his personal life is a mess and he is secretly jealous of people who do have successful relationships.  But at the same time, Donner wants those relationships, so every once in a while he allows himself to be vulnerable.  It’s at that moment, he usually gets into trouble either because he opens up to another miserable comic or because he gets scared and starts turning on the person.

Comedy is, after all, a defense mechanism.  So in a way, Donner is his own worst enemy when it comes to relationships.  His only friends are other comics that he doesn’t consider a threat.  Fortunately, he’s so full of himself, he doesn’t consider any comic that isn’t world famous a threat.

Webmaster Bio: Nick Beranek

WEBMASTER

NICK BERANEK

A superhero in his right, though not able to manipulate fire with his mind, he is able to manipulate a keyboard with his nimble fingers.  Nick creates on-screen representations of ideas, and great ideas to boot.   He is a Marketing Web Designer/Developer, father of two daughters, and child at heart. Owner of metaNick embed, LLC, and a freelancer, he uses these talents to develop the backend and create some of the frontend graphics and navigation you see on this website.

You can reach him at nick(at)thewebcomicfactory(dot)com.

Nick does his best to attain that title of superhero … One power acquisition at a time.

Letterer Bio: Thomas Mauer

Aug20
by Tony DiGerolamo on August 20, 2010 at 7:24 pm
Posted In: Letterer Bios

THOMAS MAUER

Over the past few years, Thomas Mauer has worked as a letterer, designer, art director, and editor for a wide variety of publishers including AAM/Markosia, Archaia Studio Press, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, Oni Press, and Silent Devil Inc. He has had a hand in a number of Harvey and Eisner Award nominated and winning titles, including Image Comics’ POPGUN anthology series and the webcomic The Guns of Shadow Valley.

Although he wears many hats in the industry, his primary passion is lettering. While working digitally, Thomas constantly experiments to improve the ways of bringing hand lettering sensibilities to the projects he is involved in. Striving for “perfect imperfection,” his goal is to marry the lettering more organically to the artwork. To achieve this, he mixes up his lettering style depending on the artwork and nature of the project. Having perfected his workflow over the years, Thomas prides himself in turning around pages quickly while not sacrificing lettering quality.

He has been working on webcomics for years and loves that they offer a way to bring indie comics to more people than print editions can achieve, constantly increasing their readership.

More about Thomas’ work can be found on his website at http://www.thomasmauer.com.
