There is a slight problem with you argument, all the mass kills done by white males recently have been with guns gotten legally. America can have “safeguards” for voting and abortions but magically none for guns.
Gun owners are more likely to kill themselves, kill a family member, and kill others (Florida or Las Vegas) than to kill a Willie Horton with their guns. Gun violence is more than just a bunch of black guys America shows White America everyday on the news.
Can gun violence be totally stopped? No it can’t. This does mean America shouldn’t try. Stop with this tired argument against gun control because 17 people are dead… again.
Your comment doesn’t seem to address the points I brought up in the comic. Did you read it? I’m not sure where you’re getting a racial component to this.
I will break my argument down so you can understand it.
1. You comic attempts to show pro-gun people as the logic ones while the anti-gun people are the emotional, illogical ones. I believe this is false. Pro-gun people are just as, if not more so, emotional as anti-gun people. I can’t count number of times I have seen white males armed to the teeth marching in pro-gun rallies talking about gun rights. I don’t see other group doing the same.
2. What is hinted in your comic is there nothing anyone can do about gun violence and no amount of gun violence will ever justify limiting the right to own any type of gun know to mankind. Again I think this is false.
Other countries have limits ( Australia) and have far less gun violence. Also gun violence is defined as ANY violence done with a gun which includes homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, and suicide, attempted suicide, accidental or unintentional injury and death. More people kill themselves with guns more than any other way and those numbers are greater than all the homicides and mass shooting combined. The suicide rate with guns never make the news.
The only gun violence White America sees on a regular basis in the news is Black males killing people. This brings me to my last point…
3. Why is White America so wedded to 2nd Amendment? Why does White America want military styled weapons for “home protection”? I think it’s because of White America’s fear of Black people. The NRA was founded in 1871 after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and has a “colorful” history of preaching fear of Blacks to White America.
White America’s fear of the “Great Black Uprising” was confirmed in the 60’s race riots in the cities (which also led to White Flight of the cities but that’s another story). The final push in the fear wagon for White America was the media and politicians use of the fear of Black males for personal gain (See Fox “News”, GOP, Trump… The list goes on…)
Take some time to read about Willie Horton, go look at the news, or listen to politicians. The fear of Black males and their crimes against good law abiding White American citizens must be stopped by “any means necessary”. You don’t need an AR-15 to stop a robber in a house (trust me, you will tear up your home up if you fire a AR-15 in the house and miss the robber). You do need an AR-15 unless you think a large number of people will “invade” your home. I wonder who whose people are….
A few dead White people (again) is a small price to pay to save White America from those evil, killing, rapping, and thieving Black Males…
2nd Amendment Forever (or as long as White America is afraid of minorities.)
1. Your random personal experience isn’t particularly relevant unless you happen to be an expert in this area. I assume you’re not, since an expert probably would’ve immediately dressed me down and has better things to do than argue the points I made in a comic strip. Your racial collectivism is your prism, not mine. And as far as what I stated in the comic, well, I’m the expert on that, aren’t I? I would say that you’re missing an important element in the first panel. The newscaster and his ridiculous list of adjectives. So perhaps what I’m saying is that the media stokes the fires of an emotional issue for its own benefit, leaving cooler heads to deal with the emotional upheaval left in their wake.
2. No. What I’m pointing out is that gun control is not a solution to gun violence. If you want to know my solutions to reducing gun violence, you can read that here http://www.thewebcomicfactory.com/comic/the-antiwar-comic-who-controls-the-guns/
As for Australia, well, I’m not Australian. If they want to disarm themselves, that’s their business. Personally, I’d rather not trust the government and I think abuse from cops will be much, much worse once the police know there’s no way you have a gun, not to mention the many armed criminals already on the streets. I’m not worried about accidental injury or being killed by a loved one. My loved ones love me. I mean, if that’s a worry of yours, maybe you should seek family counseling and put the guns away until you straighten out your issues.
Ultimately, guns are a deterrent. And while Australia is example, New Zealand is right nearby and a very similar country (albeit smaller) and they haven’t had the mass shootings, so maybe the issue is one that can’t be solved by politicians who regularly abuse their power? Just a thought. I assume you must really love the current president if you want to hand him even more power! Not me!
3. Wow, you really see everything through race. I’m pretty sure that African Americans and other races own guns. Here’s some Pew Research statistics on gun ownership, which includes a partial breakdown by race. http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2017/06/22/the-demographics-of-gun-ownership/ Looks like a pretty significant amount of gun owners are non-white, so perhaps this is more perception than reality. People in poor neighborhoods tend to be in the neighborhoods that are full of drug violence. You want to disarm these law abiding people trying to protect themselves? That’s not working so well in Chicago.
And I would also say that gun laws, by necessity, would have to be different in different parts of the country. It’s one thing to be a New Yorker and get into trouble and call the cops. You can expect them there in a reasonable amount of time to protect you (although I wouldn’t, being distrustful of such institutions, but most people). Whereas, if you’re in a place like Montana or Texas, it might be days before the cops can get to you. If you live in the middle of nowhere, on a farm and you see a group of rough looking guys pulling up your dirt road, what do you do? Lay down and die?
Part of the issue with partial gun control is this: Since these laws are ineffective, no one is going to talk up the next mass shooting like “Thank God we banned bump stocks! Or this would’ve been worse!” The laws are all tiny steps to ban guns outright. They’ve always have been. Gun control is power and there’s not a politician alive who doesn’t want more. I’m very shocked that you see this as a racial issue and want to hand people like Donald Trump MORE power. He has far too much already in my opinion. Would you trust his judgement to decide who lives and dies? When the cops can shoot you? The guy wants to keep Guantanamo open and he inherited Obama’s Kill List. Why hand him more power?
