My stepdaughter is the same way. She’d forego a home-cooked meal to eat a corn dog with her boyfriend.
I remember back in the 60s and early 70s when I was K-12… I always had a bag lunch and bought milk or juice and a piece of fruit from the vending machines. The school cafeteria lunches were reminiscent of ‘Up the Down Staircase’. In my last year I had ‘authorised off campus time’ because I’d finished my senior year math and history courses in junior year, and was taking extra math at local college; we’d eat roastbeef or chicken sandwiches (avoid the burger dumps, one of those had got caught adding stray cats to meatgrinder) and go to our math course, then go back to highschool for language arts and athletics (crosscountry or track for me). For me, brownbag and Arbys beat school cafeteria any day!
Ooo, nasty. Cat meat is too stringy for me.
My son does the same thing. He’d rather spend money to buy a $5 dollar half a sandwich than to undergo the embarrassment that he claims comes from school cafeteria food. He’d rather go hungry if I can’t give him money. KIDS!
