I almost met Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. once.  He was speaking at my college.  When I went backstage to have him autograph my copy of Breakfast of Champions, I saw that he looked pretty wasted.  I decided to pass.  Probably better I didn’t tarnish the notion in my head.
